Garden in February
Pre-growing
You can start pre-growing some of the summer’s vegetables and flowers as early as February. Some of the goodies you can put in the potting soil include celery, artichokes, chillies, and leeks. Plant the seeds in clean pots with moist soil and place them in a warm area, preferably at a room temperature of around 20 degrees. Cover the pot with a lid or plastic. When you see the leaves emerging from the soil, you should place the pot in a window. The lid or plastic covering the pot should not be removed until the plants have got their cotyledon (seed leaf). Transplant the seedlings if necessary, and acclimate the plants for about 1-2 weeks before planting them outdoors. Make sure there is no risk of night frost before planting the plants outdoors.
