Garden in July
Flowers – watering and nourishing
The sun and warmth give your summer flowers a chance to really blossom and thrive. To keep them healthy and happy, they need to be watered during extended periods of heat and dry weather. Don’t forget to also add some plant nutrients when you give them water, this will help the flowers survive longer into the autumn as well. You can also cut wilted summer flowers to give them a chance to blossom again.
Harvesting fruit and vegetables
Now it’s finally time to harvest the fruits of your plantings.
You can make a delicious salad from your homegrown potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, and beans, and enjoy the fruit from your plum trees. Just don’t forget to place netting over your crops to protect them from birds and other pests that would love to eat them.
Pruning fruit trees
There is a lot of work to be done on your fruit trees during the month of July. Pick the fruit at regular intervals so that the remaining fruit has room on the tree to grow nice and big.
July also marks the start of the JAS period: July, August, and September are the months you should prune your stone fruits. You can start some light pruning in July and then cut the rest later in the summer, after you have harvested the fruit from the trees and shrubs.
